Why look at Swindon for your event?
Swindon has carried an image problem for a long time. Most event buyers based outside the town don’t shortlist it, and most agencies who suggest it can’t speak to why with any conviction. Three things worth knowing if you’re weighing it up.

The town itself has venues that hold up against anywhere in the south west for character. The Steam Museum is a working railway heritage site that you can hire for evening events - 600 standing under preserved locomotives is the kind of experience guests genuinely remember. Lydiard House is a Palladian country mansion with grounds, ten minutes from the town centre. The Wiltshire and Old Town venues handle smaller corporate hospitality and milestone events. The geography matters more than people realise. Swindon sits where the M4, A419 and A420 converge. Within 30 minutes’ drive you reach the Cotswolds villages (Castle Combe, Bibury, Lacock), Marlborough and the Marlborough Downs, Avebury and the stone circles, Cirencester, and the racecourses at Newbury and Bath. Within an hour you reach Bath, Bristol, Cheltenham, Oxford and Reading. As a base for events that mix a town-centre core with country excursions, away days or partner hospitality, Swindon’s position is genuinely uncommon.

The transport works. Swindon station runs direct services to London Paddington in around 55 minutes, and direct to Bristol, Reading and Cardiff. The M4 J15 and J16 give car access from both directions. For events with delegates arriving from multiple cities, that combination is rare outside major hubs.

Lydiard House
Is the country-mansion option, 10 minutes from the town centre. Suits weddings, smaller corporate dinners, and exclusive-use day events for 100-150 guests. The grounds open up marquee options for larger summer events.
This venue can host large-scale events as it has a parkland setting.
​Marriott and Hilton Hotels
Both these hotels cover the standard residential conference and corporate dinner remit, with breakout space and accommodation under one roof.
The Hilton Hotel is conveniently located off junction 16 of the M4, and the Marriott Hotel has easy access from junction 15 of the M4.

This four-star lakeside hotel sits on the edge of the Cotswolds in South Cerney and is surrounded by 180 lakes. It features modern lakeside rooms and a tranquil spa, nature trails and water sports, and has excellent conferencing facilities and outside space for team building. We have been preferred suppliers since 2001.
Blunsdon House Hotel
Family-run four-star hotel set in 30 acres of grounds overlooking a Cotswold escarpment, with great access for the M4 and A419. 108 en-suite rooms and a golf course. We have extensive knowledge of this venue and how best to use its flexible event space
Stanton House Hotel
Tranquil, Cotswold-stone manor house in Wiltshire overlooking Stanton Park and lake and with great access to the M4. We have been successfully running events here since 2001 and more recently for Edenred in 2026.

Science and Innovation Park
The Science Museum Swindon, officially known as the science and innovation park, is located in Wroughton and is a vast 545-acre former RAF airfield. It also acts as the national collections centre, securely housing around 80% of the Science Museum Group's massive collection. We have worked extensively at this venue for events ranging from 100 to 5,000 people.
Old Town Venues
For smaller and more characterful options, the Old Town venues (around Wood Street and Devizes Road) include independent restaurants, function rooms and the kind of venues that suit private dinners and milestone parties up to 80 guests.
Within thirty miles of Swindon

Our base just outside of town
The 10,000 sq ft event warehouse Planet Pursuits operate from is at Chiseldon, a village just south of Swindon town centre and right next to M4 J15. It’s where most of the kit we use across the south of England lives - stretch tents, props, bars, event furniture, lighting, audio, power, team building equipment and basic conference AV.
For Swindon events specifically, that base matters. Same-day site visits are normal. Late-stage brief changes are a five-minute drive rather than a two-hour one. The crew running your event lives in the wider Swindon area. If you want to come and see the kit, the warehouse and the team in person before signing anything, you can.

Our process runs the same five stages across every project - a first chat, design and venue work, the build phase, the event itself, and a proper catch-up afterwards. Local company RWE requested our Event Management Services to deliver an exceptional Christmas experience at the Steam Museum, Swindon. They had a set idea on the theme of colourful Christmas, and we executed the plan with a cost-saving measure of using draped material on the walls and an abundance of Chinese lanterns overhead, supported with white chair covers and a colourful array of bows, creating a spectacular theme and colourful party atmosphere.

Questions about Swindon events
Why would we host in Swindon when Bath, Bristol or London is nearby?
Three reasons buyers commonly land on. First, cost: Swindon venue and accommodation costs run noticeably below Bath and Bristol equivalents for similar capacity. Second, access: Swindon station runs direct to London in 55 minutes and direct to Bristol, Reading and Cardiff, so a mixed-region delegate audience travels here as easily as anywhere. Third, the wider area: if your event might extend to a Cotswolds country house, a team day at Marlborough or hospitality at Newbury Racecourse, Swindon is the practical base for all of them.
Where can we hold a corporate Christmas party in Swindon?
If you want our recommendation then it would be the STEAM museum. We've a lot of experience with running Christmas parties there and have been for over 12 years. Capacity for 600 standing or approx 300 sitting/dining, full catering and full evening hire after the public close. Ideal. For smaller events then we find the Marriott, Blunsdon House and Stanton House are all great options and we can vouch for them as super locations. If you'd like us to set a party up for you then we manage venue, catering, theming and entertainment all within one plan.
Can a Swindon-based event extend into the Cotswolds?
Frequently. A common shape is a daytime event in central Swindon (STEAM, the Designer Outlet, the Marriott) followed by a residential overnight at a Cotswolds country house 25 minutes away (Castle Combe, Lacock, the various manor estates near Cirencester). We handle both ends under a single project plan.
How does Swindon compare to Reading as an event base?
Different briefs suit each. Reading is closer to London by Elizabeth line (24 minutes vs 55) and has a higher density of corporate tenants for customer conferences. Swindon has better access to country venues, better cost economics, and the warehouse and team are based here so logistics costs lean lower. For corporate-led conferences with a London delegate base, Reading often wins. For events that benefit from the wider area or want a residential element, Swindon usually does.
Can we come and see the team and warehouse before commissioning?
Yes, and we’d encourage it. The 10,000 sq ft event warehouse is at Chiseldon, on the southern edge of Swindon, and stocks most of the kit we use across the south. Visiting in person before commissioning is the fastest way to understand whether we’re the right fit. We’ll show you the kit, walk through how we’d approach your brief, and answer the questions the website can’t.
What are the transport links like to Swindon?
It is one of its strongest selling points, as it has excellent transport links, with the M4 passing right by junctions 15 and 16 and the A419 link road to the M5 and the Midlands and North. It is a superb location for southern UK events.
What's your favourite venue in Swindon?
I have to say, for working in central Swindon, it would have to be the Steam Museum, as it has good access and we know the building so well, having worked here for over 20 years. If it is outside a town, I would say it is the De Vere Cotswold Four Pillars Hotel, where we are a preferred supplier here and at Lake 87 next door. It's a great venue for combining conference space with an afternoon water-based activity or company festival vibe party. Our versatile stretch tents are often seen popping up and down around both the hotel and Lake 87 to give additional venue cover support.
