Charity team building (CSR)

Charity team building, otherwise known as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team events, is no longer a buzzword. It's fundamental to an organisation's perception within a community and ultimately its success. It's not just about the charity event that's organised, it's about the commitments a company has made locally and, increasingly, needs to report how it affects the community around it.

Charity and CSR team building is the event format that serves those commitments and your team at the same time. The real success in running a CSR event, is both your team and the community benefit from the experience and the outcome is realised immediately by those benefiting. Be it short term, clearing a unused site, packing food parcels, etc  or long term, making sensory garden or installing an allotment water supply etc.

One day, two outcomes

Most team building days produce a winning team and some photographs and that's no less important for team spirit but charity days produce a third thing: evidence.

  • For the team, it works exactly as team building should - mixed teams, a shared task, competition, and the particular lift that comes from effort meaning something beyond the scoreboard

  • For the business, the day generates what a CSR or ESG report actually needs: a named beneficiary, a tangible donation, and a record of the handover. Not a values statement - a genuine benefit to the community with a date stamp on it

It's amazing ,but your staff will try harder when the output matters. It is the one format where the cynics tend to come around by lunchtime and the effects can literally last a lifetime.

What your team makes or does

You might be stuck for idea, but don't worry we are experts in events, so here's a look at the most popular CSR events.

  • Build formats - teams design and build working items against the clock: bikes, go-karts or garden furniture destined for a named charity. The classic of the genre, and the strongest for delegation and quality-control lessons. Think flatback team challenge and you get the idea!

  • Assembly and packing formats - hampers, care packages, school kits or toy boxes, assembled at pace and at scale. The best fit for larger groups and shorter slots. This format perfectly suits a conference break out or ice breaker, high volume hands on! This style of Charity event easily worked into our Brand activity,

  • Challenge formats with a donated outcome - a competitive event where the scoring converts to a donation: points become pounds, or the winning output is gifted. Lets an existing event style carry a cause. A great example of this is the cash grab finale in our Crystal Challenge team build or cakes donations in the Bake Thatchallenge

Group sizes, venues and catering work as they do across all our team building - indoors or out, at a venue we find or at your site.

What happens after your event? The donation leaves with a plan, not a promise: a named charity agreed before the day and a handover your team can attend or see photographed, and a short record and the recipient's confirmation - for your CSR file. If your company has its own charity partner, we build the day around them instead.

Causes close to home

Both halves of the day land harder when the cause is local: the team recognises the name, and the donation stays in a town or city where your people live and work. We arrange this near your site or venue anywhere across our patch. National charities work too  particularly when coordinated with national or global brands for maximum reach.

How CSR team building quotes comes together

  • The brief - Group size, team mix, the charity needs, logistics. One short call covers it.

  • The venue - We look at the proposed site or build the day at your offices or conference venue.

  • The design - Activity, timings, catering, charity liaison and space planned as one running order.

  • The day - Our crew set up, we co-ordinate the charity activity and pack down. You take part.

  • Afterwards - A quick debrief on what landed, useful if the day is one of a series or the effort needs ongoing maintenance

Charity team building FAQ's

What evidence do we get for CSR or ESG reporting?

A record of the day and the donation: the named beneficiary, photographs of the build and the handover, and written confirmation from the charity where they provide it. Enough for a CSR report entry or an internal comms piece without anyone chasing paperwork afterwards.

Can we choose the charity?

Yes. Bring your existing charity partner and we design the day around them, or tell us the cause area - children, food poverty, community sport - and we propose options near you.. The charity is agreed before anything is built.

Is the donation included in the cost or extra?

The built or packed items are part of the event cost - materials are budgeted in the design, so there is no surprise second invoice. If your team wants to add fundraising on top, that is separate and entirely yours.

Do charity team building days work as normal team building?

Yes - the team objectives come first in the design, not second. The task carries the same competition, time pressure and role-sharing as any of our events; the donated outcome is added motivation, not a substitute for it. Teams consistently work harder when the output is going somewhere.

Can I build a charity event into my conference?

Absolutely, you can! Conferences generally present a large volume of people, which means an excellent supply of short-term labour for charity events like packing, delivering, installing or building.

We are only a small team of 10 to 50. What charity event would you suggest?

Great question! Small is great. Small is agile and flexible. You'll be amazed how many small charities need your support. As an example, we've done charity events that involve planting a garden that has already been cleared and constructing garden furniture with a small team of 10 to 20 staff members. Don't let your ambition to support a charity be dampened by your numbers.
